Like the one they had in November last year, Aeroplan is having a transfer promotion (until May 13) with bonuses for exchanges from points into Aeroplan Miles. Unfortunately like before, AMEX Membership Rewards is excluded.

Bonuses start at 5,000 points (20%), up to 26.67% when you transfer enough to receive 150,00 Aeroplan Miles.

My thoughts

Unless you’re bent on collecting Aeroplan Miles, the only transfer partners that I would use is CIBC because their Aventura product only has Aeroplan as a transfer partner. SPG is not bad if you want a business class trip to Europe as that means converting 65,000 points will get you 90,000 Aeroplan Miles which seems acceptable and is the cheapest of all the conversion options (as United is 2:1 and US is excluded from the 50% transfer promotion that they have). You will need a lot of points from the other hotel programs (Club Carlson, BW Rewards, Marriott, Wyndham, and Choice) to actually get enough for an award so I would rather convert to UA or AA (most of the programs listed above partner with these programs) so you have much more flexibility.

Remember, AP has high fuel surcharges on several airlines so you should know specifically what you’re redeeming for before you initiate a transfer. Altogether a fairly standard transfer promotion.
