Vancouver is one of the cities where hotel rates fluctuate substantially. During peak season, rates skyrocket to $400+ for a standard 4-star hotel. However, when it’s rainy, room occupancy drops significantly. BeVancouver is a project set up by the Vancouver Hotel Destination Association. They offer a gift card promotion in the Winter Months where you can get a large rebate on your hotel stays, which has returned.

BeVancouver Promotion Details

This Bevancouver promotion runs from October 31 to December 31. You will receive an American Express gift card from $50-125 on your first night, and $50 for each additional night. The more luxurious the hotel, the higher the gift card amount. Since hotel rates are low, the rebate can be quite significant. For a date in December, the Fairmont Waterfront goes for $249 with $125 off. That’s close to 50%.

One night stays are the most lucrative, but you still end up getting a lot of AMEX gift cards for longer stays. Nearly all chain hotels in Vancouver are included, so you have plenty of flexibility choosing where to go. You receive the gift card at check-in so you can use it to pay, although sometimes hotels don’t allow it. Interestingly, BeVancouver also offers a best price guarantee through email, which is good because some properties have higher rates on BeVancouver than directly booking with the hotel. Be sure to check both websites to maximize your savings.

There are a limit of three booking per person. Booking separate one night stays will get combined, although you can alternate nights if travelling with someone. Historically, they have enforced this but there are ways around it. If you’re travelling with a companion, that’s another three stays, and then there are other ways. The rates are supposedly non-cancellable, although in reality some of the reservations book at the best available rate, which means you can call the hotel directly to modify your rate.

This works well if they are elite qualifying.

Many bookings the last promotion earned points, making it a decent deal to mattress run. This worked particularly well with the Hyatt for Diamond Status (now Globalist). The room rate would be around $200, you’d get a $100 gift card, several thousand points from the Diamond Amenity and Closed Regency Club, stay credit, and free breakfast for up to 4 people. You could also pay with a gift card for an additional discount. It pretty much meant it was worth it even if you didn’t need the hotel room.

With the World of Hyatt changes, this doesn’t work as well. What this promotion might work well for is for Fairmont Platinum status, which you get after 5 stays with your American Express Platinum Card. This is a no-brainer if you have three or four nights, because qualifying will get you a free night certificate, suite upgrade certificates, and $200 in Food and Beverage credits.

Overall, this promotion is definitely worth considering if your travel plans include Vancouver. Will you be taking advantage of this offer? Access the booking site here.

  1. FYI, you have a small grammatical mistake in this article: “Many bookings *in* the last promotion earned points, making…” Feel free to delete this comment after you fix. 🙂

  2. I took advantage of this promotion in March when visiting Vancouver, combined w/ my Fairmont Platinum status, and it was fantastic.
