There are definitely some things you can do with miles and points that are really exciting, like international first class or a presidential suite upgrade.

Then, there are those really special experiences. Last month, Virgin Atlantic launched a pop-up campaign with onefinestay, where you could stay overnight at a private bedroom in their Heathrow Clubhouse lounge.

I was lucky enough to grab one of the available dates, and it was incredible. This opportunity worked out really well since I would already be in Europe, so I routed my return through Heathrow.

To overnight in the lounge, you needed to depart on a Virgin Atlantic flight the next day. I’m not the biggest fan of Virgin Atlantic’s onboard seat product, so I booked a Delta One flight to JFK with Virgin Australia Velocity Miles, which is a transfer partner of the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express.

It was a very reasonable price, requiring only 49,500 miles. You could also redeem for this flight with SkyMiles, Virgin Atlantic miles, or Singapore Krisflyer miles. I arrived at Heathrow Terminal 3 the evening before, and was escorted to the lounge.

The experience was lovely. The lounge manager and staff were aware that I was staying overnight, and I probably got better treatment because of that. I also had a table in the dining area reserved for me. The bedroom was at the corner of the lounge curtained off with glass doors and curtains.

The bedroom was nicely designed and was complete with Virgin Atlantic amenity kits, pyjamas, and a bathrobe. The mattress and bedding were comfortable.

The bedroom had amazing views of the tarmac.

That night, I enjoyed a meal in the lounge, went to the spa, then had the lounge all to myself. This was one of the best parts of the experience. It was just me, the Virgin Atlantic representative, and the cleaners.a room with chairs and tables

Then, I woke up to many wide-body planes parked at gates. You do get these views at in-terminal airport hotels, but there’s a big difference walking down to check-in, immigration, and security as opposed to waking up IN the lounge.

The closest you could come to is the Qatar Airways Al Safwa Lounge in Doha, those bedroom are definitely not as exciting as these. I’m tremendously glad that I got the chance to do this.

Flying First Class is already something very few people can do, but this was something really really really few people could do. I’m very lucky.
