An Alternative to the ANA Tool

My favourite site to look for Star Alliance award space used to be ANA. It was the most comprehensive tool and let you see 7 days of direct availability on flights, something really useful if you knew the particular flights you had in mind. However, with the recent ANA award chart changes as well as their move to the Amadeus reservation system, that’s changed. The interface to look for award space is atrocious. I’ve basically given up trying to use the site. Luckily, a friend told me about a new search tool, called Award.Flights.

This site literally might be one of the best free award search tools out there. The search tool is a Google Chrome App which you can install. It scrapes ANA, Aeroplan, Krisflyer, Etihad, BA Avios, and JAL JMB, which means basically you can search for oneworld and star alliance space, as well as Etihad when redeeming AA miles and Singapore when redeeming Krisflyer miles.

You have to put your frequent flyer account info in, so I’d recommend making dummy accounts for this tool since I’m not sure how securely your data is kept.

The options and variables are very useful. You’re able to search award space up to a 30 day span, and can also filter out by class of service, airline, and connection point. This is extremely helpful when you are looking for a direct flight or want to fly airlines that don’t have fuel surcharges on Aeroplan awards.

This should be a much better way to search for awards when redeeming your Aeroplan miles you earn from credit cards like the American Express Gold Card or the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite.
