One way to easily earn miles is through their mileage portal – allowing you to earn miles whenever you shop online. Aeroplan runs promotions a few times a year allowing you to earn increased miles per dollar on spend. The last one was in April.
Until October 26th (the graphic on the Aeroplan site is incorrect), you can earn 5x on nearly all retailers on the Aeroplan eStore. This is noteworthy because the bonuses are increased for stores that typically give 1 point/$. That means, if you’re using the American Express Gold Rewards Card and TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite (see my review), both cards which offer Aeroplan miles and an increased private offer, you earn at least 6 Aeroplan Miles/$ spent.
Selecting the Best Portal
The best way to compare mileage portal payouts is through WebFlyer’s Mileage Mall, because it lists nearly all airline and hotel portals. An example of this is with Bose.
Aeroplan here is the best offer. Furthermore, Keeping in mind potential cashback portals is also important when judging the strength of an offer. Cashbackholic aggregates all the rebate sites well.
What Aeroplan eStore Retailers have Improved Offers?
The three partners I want to highlight are Microsoft, eBay, and Apple, which all are earning 5x/$. I’m not a big online shopper, so there are plenty of US and Canadian retailers I might have missed. It’s quite rare that you’re earning at these amounts, especially at the Canadian Dollar. That means you’re earning roughly 6.5 miles per US dollar.
Please be aware of terms and conditions that may hinder you from receiving your miles. For eBay for example, you’re limited to 4000 miles per transaction, while Apple limits certain products from earning miles.
As a dDistinction member, you also earn a bonus while shopping at the eStore. According to Aeroplan:
dDiamond Distinction members also receive two (2) Distinction bonus miles for every dollar spent on eStore transactions. dBlack and dSilver Distinction members receive one (1) Distinction bonus mile for every dollar spent on eStore transactions.
This means, buying a $1600 CAD new macBook can earn you up to 12,800 miles:
- 5x with the eStore Promo
- 2x as a dDistinction Black Member
- 1x with the American Express AeroplanPlus Gold Card
If you factor the exchange rates as a benchmark to American deals, that’s roughly 10 miles/$. I value Aeroplan miles between 1.5-1.7 cents, which means you can get up to a 15% rebate on your macBook – or potentially more if you use them for a valuable redemption like Lufthansa First Class.

It’s worth considering, when comparing portals, their reliability and speed posting miles. I’ve used the Aeroplan eStore eight times and on four of those occasions the miles were not posted. Their procedure for fixing this takes time and causes a significant delay. I’d like to see a study of this issue, on multiple shopping portals, using various retailers, using Safari, Chrome, Internet Exploder, on PCs and Macs. It’s great to “earn” extra miles, but be prepared to “burn” your precious time.
Not worth the frustration. eStore is a bit of scam. Two-thirds of the time I never get any miles, and filing out their missing miles form has no effect.
