Aeroplan has been making great strides to improve their online experience recently. This might be related to the upcoming Aeroplan/Aimia split, but good news is good news. For more details, see my post on whether I’ll still be collecting Aeroplan miles and my thoughts on the impending breakup.
As for earning Aeroplan miles, I recommend American Express. This is because they have the option to transfer to Aeroplan, but other partners as well depending on how things go. Four charge cards are available, all with increased bonuses. AMEX has also just improved their application eligibility requirements, making it easier for many people to obtain a card.

View Aeroplan Partner PNRs
Last week, Aeroplan reached out letting me know that you can now view your record locators for other airlines if booking a partner award. To view your record locators, select the “Your Aeroplan” tab once logged in, and then “Manage My Rewards”.
Click the Seat Selection link once inside your booking, and an image like this will appear. Airlines that share the same booking system will have the same confirmation code.
This is very useful, as with the partner booking reference you should be able to view your reservation online on the partner airline’s website. For many airlines, you will now be able to pick your seat online. However, with some airlines, like LH Group, it’s still hard to select your seat online even with their record locator. In these cases, I call the airline directly with the e-ticket number to select my seat after checking the seat map on Expertflyer.

So I guess you just rehash other people’s people information without accreditation now. DCTA had this a week ago.
FYI, the info first surfaced on FT, and my person at Aeroplan then messaged me about it. Nice of you to comment.
