Working as of 12:57 Pacific Time June 17th 2013
There is a misfiled one-way fare (seems like they left off a digit) from Johannesburg to Geneva/Zurich via Istanbul, in business class! Book with united.com (not an affiliate link, thanks for your support!).
DO NOT CALL THE AIRLINES! Please comment below on the post if you have any questions. Also remember that with all these fares, there is an inherent risk of the airline cancelling the fares. Be very careful about purchasing non-refundable travel expenses including hotels and positioning flights. I TAKE NO LIABILITY IF ANY MISHAP OCCURS AND I POST THIS BECAUSE I WANT PEOPLE TO BENEFIT. AGAIN, DO NOT CALL THE AIRLINES!
Also you can see this on ITA Matrix:
I saw this just a few minutes ago and at first it didn’t seem bookable on expedia.com but now I can use united.com to book this!
It seems bookable but I have yet to know as I haven’t purchased anything yet. This is also only available on some days, check ITA to see which days will work on united.com. For example, the image below only 6, 12, 19, 20, and 21st have space in August.
Get in before they figure it out! Happy Booking! A very big HT to Flyertalk! The fare rules say 100 EUR for changes, 200 EUR to cancel, but given that it is an erroneous fare, it’s likely you will get free cancellation if you want to cancel. It also says you’re permitted a stopover in IST, although I haven’t gotten that to price. If you did, please comment below!
I am on Facebook and Twitter – this is the sort of content that is time sensitive that you don’t want to miss! If you liked this post, you can also signup for emails to get one daily message with all my posts.

In that first screen shot, what search engine is that?
That’s expertflyer.
Its $467 USD for all Americans who read. Books into J business class (which earn 100% PQM on United). Limited Scattered dates. Seems like this is much like the SEY-AUH-DUB deal… cheap fare but hard to position.
Thanks for killing another deal….
Thanks for killing the deal !
It’s not a deal. It’s an obvious mistake.
Yea for real. Post innovative things not just copy and paste.
How about you start posting constructive comments and not just “hater” comments that tell me what I should do?
Also works from CPT.
You’re blog is quickly turning into the bottom of the barrel.
you are killing the deal (=error fare) by making it public. this is a NO-GO !
And if I didn’t post about it, it wouldn’t die?
To those of you who are complaining about Jeff “killing the deal”, I ask you this…
Did you discover this deal yourselves? No, you didn’t. So that means that someone else kindly made you aware of this deal through some other public channel, because that person recognized that it would benefit other people.
So you must be thankful that this person chose to initially share that information. But you’re irritated that someone else has now chosen to continue sharing that information.
So, in summary, it was okay for the information to be shared when YOU were the beneficiary, but it became unacceptable once other people were allowed to benefit as well.
Do you realize how ridiculous that is?
You hit the nail on the head, Jonathan.
+1
Thank you for putting my thoughts into words, Jonathan
Keep up the good work, Ignore the hypocrites
Jeff, thanks! And to those naysayers: I second what Jonathan says.
I cant use this one, but thanks for posting it. Ignore all the comments about killing the deal, if you don’t post it, then someone else would, keep it up.
Wow, wish I could use it!! I second Jonathan and Gaurav’s comments. Thanks for all your good work!!
Those people have a problem. Why do they read your blog? Some people really need to get a “LIFE”. As always thanks for sharing.
Seems to be dead.. Can’t find any more flights.
I guess that only took about two hours or so right before the deal was dead? These deals last much longer until they’re blogged about. This is why people don’t like sharing things on FT.
Really? What about the last mistake fare that I posted about? Lasted a whole two days. Just look at the different rounds of the Rangoon fares. I don’t see any causation between my post and the fare dying. Correlation, maybe. But then there’s a correlation between the number of comments from Angries and the number of mistake fare posts I have.
I’m no expert, so forgive me if I am wrong – but what is the point of taking advantage of this fare? After all you will have to spend big bucks to get yourself to JNB before the flight and get yourself back to your home city from Switzerland, which could cost more and make this mistake fare not so attractive…Unless you have already planned to visit IST or GVA/ZRH, why would anyone buy it?
Hope someone can shed a light?
Not really. 70k AS miles to position with CX F to JNB, and then lots of options to get back to North America with any miles/points. People who have miles are going to spend them anyway, and this fare could be a tipping point to decide where to go.
How would you position CX F to this?
Do you think united will honor it? If not, would they throw some miles our way for our “troubles”?
Still up in the air as of right now… Depends on whether Turkish decides to honour. United likely will not give compensation since it wasn’t even their fare.
I always appreciate mistake fares, so thank you for posting it. Everyone else get over it, it’ll die anyway. Plus, maybe people will benefit from this who actually spend money with united unlike you all (naysayers) who hunt for mistake fares and mileage runs to hit 1k. Outrageous. I wonder if you all could ever be “elite” flyers without taking advantage of the system.
I appreciated you posting this fare. (If honored)..it will be great time in CPT over XMas and NYE. Thx
STOP KILLING DEALS!!!
I really like how other bloggers put this:
“Regarding claims of censorship:
I do not censor comments unless they are abusive and do not contribute anything in my sole opinion to the post. In that event I just don’t approve them. If your comment calls me names or makes false accusations it is just not going to get approved. Period. and if it slips through, it will be deleted. But I do not change your comments to say something different.”
Honestly that is what I’d like to say. That means I don’t need comments saying I killed the deal. If you like, comment or send me an email on why and how I killed the deal. I will respond to the best of my ability.
Jeff my man, I will apologize for all the A-hole Americans (and there are about 300 million of us A-holes, haha) spouting nothing but garbage and hot air.
All y’all yippin and yappin can shut the f*ck up and eat a fat d*ck. This kid is Canadian so you’re not gonna get a rise out of him. He’s gonna reasonably defend himself, be cordial and be on his way doing what he’s doin and be happy.
Thank you Jeff for stating some amazing deals that most FT and MP and FF blog followers hear about anyway but you put on your own blog to help the few followers that may not have heard of FT and MP.
You do this for them and not all the trolling f-tards that normally inhabit the cyberspace of actual A-hole bloggers on BA, Gary *cough* Scott *cough cough*.
Keep your head up, do good work, write good things that help people and don’t let anyone stop you from sharing and helping others.
To the rest of you f*ckers. Eat a Tim Horton’s donut (yeah I know what that is) and choke on that sh*t till you learn to do what you keep yelling at this kid to do, which is SHUT THE F*CK UP!
Americaaa! F-Yah!
If you are at Tim Horton, their timbits are tastier than getting a regular donut. But you just made my day. 🙂
I like their Maple donuts. Out of this world. I feel better that you get haters too. 🙁
Ignore the haters. I appreciate this post!
Thanks for posting. Ignore the haters!
Keep up the good work and ignore the hypocrites
Next time you have a deal like this, it would be criminal to make a blog post about it, risking “killing the deal”.
What I would request (no, demand, to protect others – meaning me) is that you first send me the deal via private email. After my review and resulting decision, you would send the information to my three friends Al, Chris and Terry. Except if it’s for Asia, when Terry is replaced by Bob. Terry is only interested in Europe (which I find incredibly parochial, but whatever…)
Anyhoo, when all my private associates have reviewed the deal, then you are free to blog away.
It just really comes down to this: it’s all about me and my friends. Only if we’re not interested, then others should be told. If you tell anyone before me, you’re a deal killer and therefore a maroon.
Interesting idea. I’ll definitely consider it and if I do, then it’ll be via my mailing list which you can subscribe for at signup.canadiankilometers.com 🙂
I have to laugh – criticize The Mr Pickles for posts like this, and in fact copy directly from his blog (see comment #22) Very funny indeed.
Sorry, Comment #23
I appreciate your comment in #23, thanks and keep up the good work.
@Jerod #24–Spot on!
I love Tim Hortons!
I want some TimBits! Yum! Guess I’ll have to wait a few weeks. 🙂
I’m having trouble following. Did I just miss out on a Tim Hortons mistake fare?
I booked this flight around 9pm EST. Disappeared shortly afterwards
Good job dear
Actually it’s still works…2:30 am EST.booked 2x cpt-zrh @ $480 pp for next february.what a coincidence that I was planning to be there anyways:)
Nice work! I would just like to respectfully request that if you post fare rules, leave out the garbage. It makes viewing on some mobiles a nightmare
Will do, thanks!
Mistake fares are their own beast, different from other loopholes and secrets. They will die on their own once rev management figures it out (which will be quick). It’s like they have their own internal timer. Posting on a blog will definitely kill them faster. … BUT
to the people who are mad that CK is “killing the deal” … that implies that you knew about the deal before it hit the blog. In which case, do you know how mistake fares work? If you see it, book it and forget about it. There’s no time to think about it. Book it and use the 24-hour-window to think about whether or not you’ll use it.
Which camp do these people fall into?
If you booked and got your cheap one-way business class fare, hooray … why are you hating on this kid?
If you knew about it before and didn’t book, then it’s likely that this deal shouldn’t mean anything to you. So why do you care?
If you didn’t know about this deal, well … now you know!
Like I said though … this is my thought process only for mistake fares. Other secrets/loopholes don’t get this. 😉
seems to be gone!
It is not about killing the deal
It is all about stealing a deal from FT.
If it was your original research which helped you find the deal, great, post it here. But just lifting deals from FT and posting (e.g. the Lifemiles deal before this one) these here is not very original. Just giving a HT to FT does not really cut it. It still shows that you are just good at reading FT and lifting deals from there and posting them here to increase your traffic
I would suggest you watch your words. Stealing means taking another person’s property wrongfully and in many cases, illegally. I have every right to post whatever I want and if I take the information from Flyertalk and give my own analysis, that is not plagiarism at all. In fact, I did do my own research, if you look at the original post from Flyertalk. I think that is enough to say.
@DON – Under your reasoning (and I use “reasoning” loosely), you should not be posting any of your words on here because you are lifting, stealing and posting your UN-ORIGINAL content(words) from another large and important source. It’s called the dictionary. Now STFU and have a TimBit. They’re tasty.
Seems my ticket successfully ticketed by United after 24 hours, ie I have now received an eTicket itinerary and confirmation number! Worked for anyone else?
Congrats! This is why I post these fares 🙂
@Chang, I am still waiting for the e-ticket. It’s been 15 hours lol
@Don, it’s a pain to go through FT and figure things out. CK definitely did spend his time on summarizing and detailing, not just a copy/paste. That is worth a visit, isn’t it? If you don’t like it, just don’t visit. There are people like me who want to just look at a quick summary and book. And this blog gets our traffic. Win-win.
And Jeff, thank you for sharing!
Yeah I booked mine on Monday night just before midnight and got the confirmation today at 5 plus – so overall took about 18 hours
Kudos. Keep posting. Tired of the “club” thinking it’s only for their exclusive benefit.
Thank You!!!! Ignore the “haters”.
Thanks to all…we are trying to help each other and share info…..right??? Haters gonna hate!!!!
Thanks for all you do…much appreciated!
Information is power!!! Thank You!!!
