Avios is having a promotion for miles transferred in from hotel programs, with a 25% bonus on most hotel programs until October 15.

It’s very straightforward with all the hotel programs which are included (Club Carlson, Marriott, Hyatt, SPG, Shangri-La, and IHG).

Again with hotel transfers the ratios are generally very poor so the only transfer that I would only consider would be SPG and Marriott Night & Flights, although I’m not sure whether that’s included although there’s nothing in the T&C saying that it’s not permitted and only if you really need Avios.

So with a 20k SPG transfer you get a 5k bonus which becomes 25k Avios and with a further 25% promo that’s 31,250 avios. Not bad although AMEX Canada has done at least one 50% transfer promo every year and transfer bonuses have also been present with AMEX USA, so in many cases I’d again consider how urgently you’d need the Avios and whether you would get a better redemption using the SPG points for hotels.

I’d assume the bonus would post with the transfer.

• “Qualifying Hotel Loyalty Points” means a minimum of 2,000 points earned through Club Carlson; 2,500 points through Golden Circle; 2,500 points through Starwood Preferred; 5,000 points through Hyatt Gold Passport; 10,000 points through IHG Rewards; 10,000 points through HHilton and 10,000 points through Marriott Rewards.
