This afternoon I just saw on twitter (and follow me if you haven’t) that you can now redeem AAdvantage miles on all eligible LAN Colombia and TAM Airlines flights. TAM I think is actually still in Star Alliance (but they should be moving to oneworld next year) so it’s interesting to now have an airline where you can redeem both United, US Airways, and American miles on.

TAM actually has a absolutely gorgeous first class but I don’t think I’ve ever seen an F seat between North America and GRU/GIG,

which is unfortunate and I really do hope that they release F space as it looks like a really good product to try.

In the past they’d also never release economy and business class long-haul space in advance although I’ve seen a smattering of seats available on ANA, which is the best way to search the space as results neither show up on united.com nor aa.com. I haven’t checked but I am guessing the space available with American miles should match the space that shows up on ANA search.

They don’t have a great business class product (think 2-3-2 in business, yikes!) and of course their economy class should be roughly on par with everyone else, but at least it is an option to look at if you have no availability on on your dates.

This also should be good for intra-South America routes although LAN has good coverage also.
