I’ve posted quite a lot about turning Melia miles into Miles & More, and View From the Wing today posts that the 50,000 miles offer for Americans with an SSN are back.
The award chart is here. This is a great way to top up your Miles & More balance which have a few primary uses (in my opinion):
1. Domestic First Class for 12,500 miles in economy, and 17,000 miles in business for a one-way. This is a great value because you can use it on the UA Premium Service LAX-JFK routes and/or the pods in Canada from YVR to YYZ. This is significantly cheaper than using any other miles and there are no fuel surcharges and probably the best use of Miles & More in my opinion.
2. Lufthansa First Class long-haul space for 85,000 miles one-way and fuel surcharges. If you need/want to fly Lufthansa First Class and you don’t have the flexibility with booking more than 14 days out, this is only option with paying retail value. There are fuel surcharges that are between $250 – $450, unfortunately.
3. Mileage bargains which mean business class roundtrip for 55,000 miles to the cities that are featured. You can find this here in this website. They departure cities and booking dates vary and unfortunately fuel surcharges are applied as well.

Full Disclosure: I only have affiliate links for Barclay, so if you do want to apply for this card in a churn, please consider using my links if you’ve like my blog. I really do appreciate it and you are free to use anyone else’s links for banks that start with Ch and end with Bamex.
Jeff, If I could use your link, I would. So AMEX or Mastercard, if you’re reading this, don’t skip Europe, we like miles too.
or Canada, I would love me some 50k offers too 😉
Yes, it’s silly how few options we have in Canada! (I doubt even you have the above CC even though you’re giving out the link!)
We can’t get a card for Canada?
Someone has to stop the AirCanada monopoly on credit cards.
With the MAJOR devaluation of AirCanada in 2014 and co-pay, I am jumping the AirCanada un-loyal club and giving business elsewhere like many. So, what are our other options?
I’d say that Miles & More probably isn’t coming to Canada because Lufthansa doesn’t have much service except to YUL, YYZ, YVR. It is strange how there isn’t a co-branded UA card though.
Here are some options:
Royal Bank : BA and CX
MBNA Bank : AS
Capital One Bank : DL
HOTELS
AMEX : SPG (IMO , The best CC in Canada ,transferable
to any Airline with 25% bonus when transfering
20K points.(20K points = 25K miles.)
Also :
Capital One Bank : IHG rewards(Priority Club)
MBNA Bank : Best Western Rewards.
What we are missing in Canada are (IMO )
CC for : AA and Hilton HHonors.
Michael in YUL
Also missing: UA, Hyatt, Fairmont, US Airways!
Question: where (which website) to search and book US domestic award flight (economy or business) ticket?
You can use united.com to search for award space. All SAVER (not standard) award space would be bookable with Miles & More.
Jeff, congratulations on your commission! You certainly deserve it. I think you have one of the best blogs in Boarding Area. Your intelligence and sweet charm come through in your posts. May you get many more approvals!
