PointsU Calgary – Why Should You Buy a Ticket?

If you already haven’t heard, the next PointsU conference will be held in Calgary, November 4th. Many experts, including me, will be speaking there. PointsU is the only Canadian miles and points conference out there, and is a really fun experience if you love loyalty programs. If you haven’t already gotten a ticket, use promo code CDNKMS to get $20 off.

The venue for this year is the Marriott Calgary Airport. The format for this year is a little different. Instead of one speaker talking to the masses for an hour each, we’ll be splitting into smaller breakout groups for a more interactive format (hence the name, PointsU Interactive Calgary). There’s a lot of information out there, and this is one of the best ways to learn.

Why Should You Buy A PointsU Calgary Ticket?

If you didn’t already know, PointsU is the Canadian miles and points conference to attend. This will be the third PointsU Conference the last two having been in Vancouver and Toronto. There are plenty of events in the US, but none really encompass what we’ll be doing. I’m one of the most picky people out there when it comes to buying “tickets.” If you are as well, this would be my reasoning for grabbing a ticket, having spoken at the last two.

If you’re new to miles and points – this is a no brainer. Spending a day to have people talk to you in person about everything will save you a mountain of time trying to learn everything online. You’ll get personal anecdotes, live walk-throughs, and plenty of slidedecks to take notes from.

If you’re an advanced miles and points user, it’s still worth getting a ticket. Why? The simple answer is – because you don’t know everything. Regardless of how much you know, there is always a person who knows more than you do in a particular field. You will always be missing A LOT. You might know how to work through Aeroplan routing rules and how to maximize transfer bonuses and complex redemptions. You might even know about manufacturing spend.

But – attending a PointsU isn’t just about information. It’s about a network. Sure, I have plenty of people of people email me online, meet me once or twice at the occasional gathering, and I’ll tell everyone some deals. But when I learn or find out about the deal to get cheap Lufthansa First Class, for example, that’s not getting broadcast on my blog. Or even anywhere else online.

All deals come down to trust. For me (and I’m sure for many other experts), if I don’t know you and trust you, nothing’s going to happen.
