Scotiabank has an excellent credit card portfolio with it comes to category bonuses. Two welcome offers will be decreasing on March 3, making it one of the last few days to apply for these cards.

The Scotiabank Gold American Express is one of the best credit cards available in Canada. The current welcome bonus is 25,000 points, with your first annual fee waived.

What’s industry leading is the 4x points you earn per dollar on gas, groceries, dining and entertainment. Having picked up this card several months ago, I use the card exclusively in these categories. For those are looking to pick up a lot of points, there’s actually a method you can earn up to 4% on all purchases and not only in those bonus categories.

Redeeming Scotia Rewards points is easy. You can offset travel purchases on your card. This includes for taxes and fees for award tickets, and makes the points as good as cash. At the end of the first year, you can also downgrade to a no-fee Scotia Rewards visa while keeping your points.

The other benefit I like about this card is their price protection insurance. It matches price drops of items that you’ve purchased within the last 60 days. Few other credit cards have this benefit other than the MBNA World Elite MasterCard.

For a card that’s free and gives you $250 to spend in travel, it’s a no-brainer. There are also reports that you can easily reopen this card multiple cards and some that even have concurrent accounts open!

If you spend large amounts in the  4% categories, the Scotiabank Platinum American Express is also worth considering with a higher $100,000 limit. This card also adds benefits like Priority Pass.

Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite

The other card offer expiring is the Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite. You earn 4% on gas and groceries, with a $25,000 per year calendar limit. On top of that, you earn 5% cash back on your purchases in your first three months, with a limit of $3,000. The annual fee for the first year is also waived.
