The Stack Mastercard is the best prepaid debit card in Canada for travellers. It does not charge any fees, including foreign transaction fees and ATM withdrawal fees. There is no other card product like this. Furthermore, you can also earn $20 when signing up for a new account. For a limited time, Stack has further sweetened their offer to get new applicants – a free year of Amazon Prime! Until December 26th, Stack will cover the monthly subscription for an Amazon Prime membership for one year.
The offer is pretty straightforward:
- Download Stack and sign up for an account
- Activate your card and link it as your default payment method for your Prime membership
You must add a minimum of $50, and your balance needs to be enough to cover the Prime charge. Loading the card is easy through direct deposit, Interac Online, e-Transfer, or Visa Debit. The card must be used to pay for the membership; otherwise, you won’t get the rebate. You can use a different card for your purchases – I use the American Express Platinum Card to earn 1.25 Membership Rewards points per dollar.
The rebate should post within 2-3 business days of the monthly subscription charge. Both new and existing Prime subscribers are eligible, as long as you change your billing method to monthly. This will affect those that get a student discount. You have to open and fund your stack account by December 26, 2018, although you have until March 30, 2019, to get a membership. This promotion is for new Stack cardholders, although existing cardholders have been able to get customer service to add the offer if they didn’t take advantage of the free Netflix/Spotify membership earlier in the year.
Amazon Prime Monthly membership is $7.99 + tax, so the maximum rebate you will earn is $95.88. This is an incredible offer because it really is free, unlike other offers that require you to open a bank account or credit card. Getting the Stack Mastercard will not affect your credit as there is no hard pull (only identity verification). Stack raised millions of dollars from a cryptocurrency offering last year so it’s great that they have the funds to offer these promotions. Nonetheless, to be safe, I would not hold more funds on the card than you have.
