With every month, there is usually a new US Airways miles for sale promo, whether it is a transfer or purchase promotion. I am pretty excited about this month’s promotion as everyone can get in on it!
For this month it is a non-targeted 100% buy miles promotion, although in certain amounts. US Airways for the whole month is giving a 100% bonus when you purchase 30,000-50,000 miles, which is not bad. That is the only tier which I think where it is worth it as if you want smaller amounts you can transfer them from Starwood (although not from Aeroplan via points.com anymore with the recent points.com changes).
Remember it’s likely that US Dividend Miles will be transferrable to American AAdvantage once US Airways and American Airlines merge, although at this price I still wouldn’t speculatively purchase future AA miles. I would only buy if you have a specific redemption in mind, such as a 90k business class trip to North Asia, which would run around $1690.
The maximum number of miles that you can purchase is 100,000 which would cost $1881 (excluding GST/HST for Canadian residents, although that *could* be avoided if you used had control of an “American Account”)
I’m still a bit torn between whether to purchase or not, as I had decent amounts of Aeroplan that I had planned to convert (which obviously is not an option now), so I’ll definitely wait a bit and see if points.com fixes the “technical error.” But even if they don’t the lure of 4 long-haul business class segments at $425 apiece ($1700 total) is very tempting. This is definitely going to be one the last 100% promos before the merger so think carefully!

I cant seem to get this to work. I tried to purchase back in May as well, but it keeps saying my CC is declined even though there is a hold placed on my credit limit. Any advice?
It definitely does that, you need to talk with your issuer and let the purchase go through. Then try again.
Did you mean “90k business class trip to North ASIA”?
I did speak with my cc issuer and they told me everything looks fine from their end and that nothing has been declined. I have also spoken to both USAir and Points.com, and no one seems to be able to help me. I really want to purchase the maximum, do you have another suggestion? thanks
Try with a different card, use a different computer/Internet connection.
